Stefan Banach proved a number of fundamental results on normed linear spaces, and many important theorems are today named after him:
the Hahn-Banach theorem on the extension of continuous linear functionals
the Banach-Steinhaus theorem on bounded families of mappings
the Banach-Alaoglu theorem
the Banach fixed point theorem and
the Banach-Tarski paradoxical decomposition of a ball.

Indiana University Press has just published a compilation of writings by pianist Moriz Rosenthal, co-edited by Mark Mitchell, author of a biography of Vladimir de Pachmann, and Allan Evans, Arbiter’s director, who produced a CD accompanying the book. The preface is by Charles Rosen.

Lubka Kolessa (1902 - 1997) - world-known artist - pianist, one of the biggest classic music stars of the 1920-1930s. She was immensely charismatic - on and off stage, and very beautiful. She played with the most outstanding conductors of her time and on the world’s most prestigious stages - Berlin, Zurich, New York, Rio-de-Janejro, Warsaw, Sofiya, Kyiv, Lviv.

Bohdan Stupka - actor of theatre and cinematograph. Over 100 roles in theatre and over 50 roles in cinematograph. His biggest success has been and still is “Tevje - Tevel” as well as such well-known fims like “With Fire and Sword” (Ogniem i Mieczem) and “East-West”.

Ludwig Heinrich Edler von Mises - economist and social philosopher - was born in 1881 in the Austro-Hungarian city of Lemberg, the son of a successful engineer. For almost four decades, he had been the uncontested dean of the Austrian School of economics.
